Should we choose a hand-fed or auto-fed UV coater?

Hand-fed models suit shorter runs when an operator is available. Auto-fed systems reduce sheet handling and maintain steadier production on longer runs. Compare average run length, sheets per shift and labor cost before choosing a feeding method.

Will UV coating adhere to toner-based digital prints?

Adhesion depends on toner chemistry, fuser oils, coating formulation and surface temperature. Variable-intensity IR helps the coating wet out over waxy or silicone-bearing toner. Test representative sheets from every press, stock and toner combination before approving the job for production.

What sheet width should we specify for a UV coater?

Yes. TEC Lighting TruCoat systems run gloss, satin and matte coatings, with changeable application rollers for textured effects. Use separate approved coating recipes and cleaning procedures for each finish to control gloss level, coat weight and cross-contamination.

How do we prevent orange peel, beading or uneven gloss?

Check coating compatibility, viscosity, roller condition, coat weight and IR settings. If digital toner wets unevenly, IR heat can help the liquid coating flow before UV curing. Qualify the complete press, stock and coating combination before running production.

Will UV coating crack during folding or creasing?

A heavy, fully cured coating can crack on the fold, especially with coated cover stocks or against-grain work. Use the correct crease size, check grain direction where possible and test the finished sheet before releasing the folded job.

What maintenance has the greatest effect on UV coater uptime?

Clean the application system before residual coating cures on rollers, blades, seals or pumps. TruCoat quick-change rollers shorten changeovers, but operators still need written wash-up intervals, approved fluids and spare wear parts matched to production volume.
